CACHE COUNTY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A family is mourning the loss of a mother who was killed in a head-on crash Saturday afternoon.
Police say a 15-year-old male was driving eastbound on the highway near Smithfield when he veered into oncoming traffic. One vehicle in the westbound lane was able to swerve and avoid a collision.
According to police, a second vehicle driven by 28-year-old Samantha Perkes was unable to avoid the oncoming car and was hit head-on and killed.
Perkes had her 4-year-old and 7-year-old daughters in the car who were both properly restrained in the back seat and suffered minor injuries.
The 15-year-old driver who was the sole occupant of his vehicle was transported to the hospital. The teen was later transported via life-flight to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City due to head injuries.
