ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4 Utah) A Utah woman was sentenced in what many have called a “horrific” case of child abuse.
In July, Brandy Jaynes, 36, of Toquerville, pleaded guilty to three counts of child abuse. Court documents said she starved her 12-year-old son and locked the boy in the family’s upstairs bathroom for up to two years. When the boy was found, he only weighed 30 pounds.
Monday, Jaynes was sentenced to the Utah State Prison for a term of one to 15 years on each count. The judge ordered the sentences to be served consecutively.
“Anything less in this case would not be in the interests of justice,” the judge’s conclusion stated.
Jaynes pleaded guilty to child abuse charges in July.
The boy’s father, Russell , was also charged.
