CACHE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- After searching for several hours for a missing 14-year-old girl, officials say she was finally found injured in a dry canal.
Around 6:30 p.m. Thursday officials say they took a report of a missing 14-year-old. Her family said she had not returned from school.
They say they contacted her friends but was unable to find her.
At midnight an "attempt-to-locate" was issued.
Around 12:45 a.m. the Smithfield City Police Department was called to a report of a teenager found injured in a dry canal east of Sky View High School.
Police were able to confirm the girl was the same one reported missing.
"The girl had significant injuries that required transportation to a local hospital," a press release said. She was flown to a Salt Lake City hospital for treatment.
Police say they are investigating the suspicious circumstances.
"There is not enough substantiated details of the extent of the girl's injuries and the circumstances of her discovery to release yet," officials said.
Officials say they consider this an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.
The identity of the girl has not been released.
