Man killed in East Canyon motorcycle accident

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 News) - A 57-year-old Salt Lake City man died in a motorcycle crash up East Canyon Friday night.

Lt. Brian Lohrke, Unified Police, said they were called at about 6:14 p.m. to 200 N East Canyon (8300 E.). Witnesses told police the motorcyclist was riding up the canyon when he lost control and went off the roadway. The rider and the motorcycle went down the mountain 40-50 yards.

Lohrke said the rider, identified as Alex Russell Ferrell, was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He was wearing a helmet.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated by Unified Police Detectives and the multi-jurisdictional Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team but it is believed speed was a factor.
