SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (News4Utah) – A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a rollover crash Monday evening.
It happened on Interstate 215 at 4700 South. Witnesses say the vehicle was traveling a high rate of speed in his pickup truck when he suddenly swerved to exit.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers say the truck rolled partially ejecting the driver.
“Coming across the roadway ended up hitting the wall and barrier the vehicle was obviously light at that point because he was sideways turned completely 180 degrees and then caught the front tire rolled and then rolled one more time where it came to rest on its tires,” said Sgt. Donavan Lucas with UHP.
Troopers say the man was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but he wasn’t wearing it properly.
The ramp was closed for about 90 minutes for the crash investigation and to clear the roadway from all the debris from the crash.
Troopers would like to remind the public that properly wearing a seat belt means "it should be snugly buckled across the lower hips/upper thighs with the shoulder portion across the sternum and collar bone." Tucking the shoulder strap under an armpit or behind the back is never proper and is unsafe they say.
