Majority of Utah's hate crime is race-related, FBI says

In 2016 Utah saw 47 race-related hate crimes. This according to statistics provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The stats break down the hate crimes by motivation including: race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, gender, and gender identity. In Utah the majority of hate crimes reported were related to race, according to the report.

Each incident was listed by city, college, county, police agency, or other agencies. Utah Highway Patrol saw the highest number of race-related hate crimes with 10 incidents reported.  In Ogden there were 4 reports of hate crimes against someone’s sexual orientation; in all there were nine reports of sexual orientation hate crimes.

There were eight reports of religion motivated hate crimes last year but zero reports of gender motivated hate crimes.
