DRAPER, Utah (ABC 4 UTAH) - Nature's nectar straight from the source. That's what you'll get from "The Hive Mind Apiary" out of Draper. The Utah-based company harvests Utah bees and makes honey along with other all natural products.
"You're either born a worker. you're born an egg laying female," said The Hive Mind Apiary Owner Christopher Nelson.
Or a gatherer or cleaner. Chris showed us just one of the hives he started three years ago.
"Trying to put a beehive on your property is not as easy as you would think," said Nelson.
That's partly because many fear the buzzing bugs.
"Bees are very docile. They're very friendly," said Nelson.
They're all working hard to produce honey. The brown part is where the bees lay eggs and feed, but the white area is the good stuff. Chris works to harvest from his two dozen hives across the valley. Easy, smooth, and delicious.
Not just eating the raw honey, which you could all day long, but making products like these. Chris began a business called The Hive Mind Apiary.
"We do the sriracha chili honey and lavender honey," said Nelson. "Your typical chapstick is petroleum based. It's going to soak into your skin and then it's going to dry it out," said Nelson.
But the kind he makes is made with honey, coconut oil, and hemp oil. Everything from the lip balm, soap, and everything in between.
"It's all natural, all very pure, very simple. We don't use preservatives, no dyes," said Nelson.
Just this year, The Hive Mind Apiary started selling the goods online or you can visit them at a local craft show or farmers market. All of the products---lip balm, pure honey, soap---are all under ten dollars.
"I mean the honey, you can't argue with it," said Nelson.
