SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Utah) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Thursday that is donating $10 million to and joining other Utah organizations to reach out and help the homeless.
A statement released Thursday outlines the donation, how it will be used and where the money comes from. According to the statement the money will help with the construction and development of additional housing in the Salt Lake area. The money comes from the LDS Church Humanitarian Aid Fund - "which comes from the generous voluntary contributions of Church members who have designated their donation for humanitarian purposes."
LDS Church Presiding Bishop Gerald Causse' says "Homelessness affects all sectors of our communities. Around the world, we join hands and hearts with dozens of partners engaged in alleviating suffering in their respective communities, and in the process we point people towards greater self-reliance.”
