Kids gather for a safari mini-camp at Camp K

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) - What a weekend up at Camp Kostopulos in Emigration Canyon.

It's a safari mini-camp. The kids got to see animals up close. They were able to touch a turtle to see what that the shell feels like and listen to the strange sounds of a kookaburra. Kids and animals always go together.

This and other activities at Camp K are made possible by donations from folks like the Gibney Family Foundation.

Mason Summers of the Gibney Family Foundation says, “I really like talking with the campers.  My wife and I were just talking with one.  She comes in. She does the activities.  She doesn't feel like she has a disability and that's the coolest thing to me is being able to look a kid in the eye and see that they don’t feel like they’re limited.  They can do this, they can’t do that. They can just come and be a kid."

The Gibney Foundation believes in Camp K so much they’ve helped raise and contributed $240,000 to the camp over the past 12 years.
