SPANISH FORK, Utah (News4Utah) – The primary suspect in an officer-involved shooting was captured in Utah County Wednesday afternoon.
Law enforcement officers converged on Main Street in Spanish Fork after a chase with Herriman shooting suspect, Justin Gary Llewelyn.
On Saturday, police say Justin Gary Llewelyn, 33, broke into a Herriman home, shot the homeowner and shot at officers. The shooting lead to a massive manhunt in the Riverton/Herriman area.
Salt Lake City police confirmed Llewelyn was taken into custody after being on the run since Saturday. Police agencies thanked the community for their tips and help as they searched for the suspect over the last few days.
Utah County Sheriff's Office says a deputy was injured during the pursuit in Spanish Fork. News4Utah was told the deputy's injuries are not life-threatening.
On Tuesday, Tasha and Misty Llewelyn were arrested and charged with obstruction of justice in connection with the shooting.
Police say they had been tracking Justin Llewellyn since the weekend. On Wednesday afternoon, they spotted him at a park in Provo. Police say he then got in a stolen truck and the high-speed chase began.
The pursuit went through Provo, Springville and ended with a crash in Spanish Fork. A Utah County deputy ended the pursuit with a PIT maneuver.
“We do know he was armed. And that was our big concern — that he was going to hurt somebody else in the community," said Salt Lake County sheriff Rosie Rivera.
"And we wanted to get him before he was able to do that,” added Rivera.
