Harmons floral designers slammed ahead of Valentine's Day

150,000 roses ordered to meet demand

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (News4Utah) - Harmons Neighborhood Grocer's floral design shop in West Valley City is bustling, as employees and helpers scramble to fill orders that will be coming in until the last minute before Valentine's Day.

The distribution center employs 10 full-time floral designers and 4 part-time floral associates.

Amanda Hammond is a certified floral designer, who says she considers floral design an art form.

"You typically want to obey the rules of the color wheel," she said as she arranged a bouquet of lilies and hydrangeas for one of her "designer's choice" arrangements. She compared the practice to that of a painter. "The idea behind floral design is expressing feeling and emotion."

Bob Harmon, company vice president, said the hottest item they sell on Valentine's Day is the $40.00 per dozen 'Desirables' arrangement, which typically features red roses.

Valentine's Day orders are being taken until Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. If customers order by that time, their order will be delivered to the location of their choice on Valentine's Day, the company said.

Harmons delivers from Orem to Ogden and is anticipating at least 1,200 deliveries. Visit Harmons website to order.
