'Hamilton' tickets sell like hotcakes ahead of SLC run

Thousands clamored to be 'in the room where it happens' Friday

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) - Tickets to Broadway's smash Hamilton: An American Musical sold fast Friday after tickets for the general public became available at 10 a.m.

Thousands tried to purchase tickets online via arttix.org, which saw heavy traffic throughout the morning.

Hundreds lined up outside the Eccles Theatre for in-person purchases, some camped out as early as 12 hours in advance before the doors opened.

"It plays to like a younger crowd, who may not be into musicals or history," said Angelique Gordon, who waited outside the theatre for hours to get tickets.

"This show really brings together people of all races," said David Chavez. The show, winner of 11 Tony Awards, features a multiracial cast portraying some of America's Founding Fathers. The hip-hop, rap and jazz infused score has captivated people of all ages.
