Evidence room employee found ‘under the influence' at work

WEBER COUNTY, Utah (News4Utah) – An employee with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office was fired after he or she was discovered to be “under the influence.”

The sheriff’s office says the civilian employee assigned to the evidence room appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.

The Weber County Attorney’s Office was contacted and a criminal investigation was launched. The sheriff’s office is also conducting an internal investigation.

“Multiple steps have been taken to ensure the integrity of evidence located inside the evidence room,” according to a statement released Wednesday.

“The Weber County Sheriff’s Office holds all of its employees, both civilian and sworn, to a strict code of conduct. Incidents such as this are extremely rare. As part of our commitment to the community we serve, we will cooperate fully with the criminal investigation and leave no stone unturned in our ongoing internal investigation.”

The name of the employee has not been released. Since this is an active investigation, the sheriff’s office says no additional information will be released at this time.
