2-year-old hit by car backing out of Herriman driveway

HERRIMAN (News4Utah)- A 2-year-old was taken to the hospital by air Wednesday morning after police say they were hit by a vehicle backing out of a driveway.

It happened outside of a in-home daycare located near 4600 West Box Meadow Circle (14240 South) around 11 a.m.

According to Det. Kevin Hansen with Unified police, a mother had just picked up her child from the daycare and was backing out of the driveway.

"There were a group of children up on the front porch of the house," Det. Hansen said. "Unknown to her a 2-year-old little boy had got to the rear of the car."

"She kind of heard a 'thump' when she backed up," he said.

Det. Hansen the toddler is in serious condition with injuries to his arm and other cuts, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

"He was conscious, he was talking...but because of the way he was hit and the possibility of him being run over by the tire of the vehicle..it was better to get him to the hospital as soon as possible." Hansen said.
