CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Christmas criminal crashes into business

Can you help police? White jeep possibly linked to other crimes

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police are investigating a bold crime: a persistent criminal who spent Christmas morning bashing in the front door of a small business.

And it was all caught on camera.

Around 8 a.m. on Christmas, surveillance video shows a would-be thief drive up in a white Jeep.

He first throws what appears to be a rock at the glass front doors of Smoke Spot.

Then, he rams the Jeep into the front door. And does it again.

He even attaches what appears to be a chain to the front door handle -- in an effort to get the doors open.

"The front end of our business just got destroyed. He ran his SUV into the business multiple times," said Farhan Iqbal, the owner.

"The guy bashed into the front end of our business. Destroyed it completely," added Iqbal.

Even though the criminal wasn't able to get inside the smoke shop, Iqbal is frustrated at the repeat attempts.

It's why he is offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest.

South Jordan Police say they're hoping the public will look out for an older model Jeep with front end damage.

They are also investigating whether there is a connection to numerous car wash break-ins over the last 10 days. At least one of those break-ins involved a white Jeep, according to Tina Brown with South Jordan.
