SANTAQUIN, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- The Humane Society of Utah is offering a $5,000 reward in the case of an alleged dog poisoning.
They say 5-year-old Dexter, a Australian Shepherd in Santaquin, appears to have ingested rat poison. His owners reportedly do not have rat poison anywhere on their property.
The Humane Society is offering the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the suspected poisoning.
Dexter's owners are reportedly disputing a Santaquin City ordinance in court. Last year, Dexter was ordered by the court to be euthanized for allegedly scratching a teen girl.
"While fighting for Dexter’s life in court, they had to fight for his life at home," HSU executive director Gene Baierschmidt said. "It’s scary to think that someone may have attempted to harm Dexter through poisoning him in his yard."
Anyone with information regarding who may have poisoned Dexter is urged to contact the Santaquin Police Department at 801-754-1070 or John Fox, HSU chief investigator, at 801-261-2919 ext. 210.
