SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - The Utah Jazz fell 94-79 to the Toronto Raptors Monday night at the Energy Solutions Arena. While the Jazz put up a scrappy effort against a good Raptors team, a lack of defense, and sometimes errant offense, cost them the game.

Forward Marvin Williams lead the charge for the Jazz with 23 total points, eight rebounds and two steals. Guard Alec Burks contributed 20 total points, and three rebounds while Center Rudy Gobert added some excitement defensively with 3 blocked shots for Utah.

Guard DeMar DeRozan was dominant all game for the Raptors scoring 23 total points along with four assists, and four rebounds. Center Jonas Valanciunas also kept the Jazz busy scoring 18 total points, contributing nine rebounds and a blocked shot.

Williams got off to a fast start for the Jazz in the middle of the first quarter with back to back lay-ups. Burks finished the quarter with a shot off the glass to give the Jazz the lead at 27-24.

Unfortunately, the lead doesn’t last long for the Jazz as the Raptors tied the game up early in the second quarter at 29.

Burks showed off some fancy footwork getting to the basket for 2 off the board. Later, Williams goes up and over and earns a trip to the line where he went 1/1. Going to half time the Jazz trailed the Raptors once more 55-44.

Williams got the third quarter started for the Jazz with a tremendous dunk but his effort was not enough to curb the rampaging Raptors. Utah ended the third quarter still trailing Toronto 71-62.

Burks pulled out some circus moves to start the fourth quarter, wiggling his way around Raptor’s Power Forward Chuck Hayes for 2 on an up and over.

Utah pulls within 3 points of Toronto (73-70) with 9:39 left in the game. However, the Jazz went on a dry spell both offensively and defensively letting the Raptors finish the game on top.

The Jazz will have three days to recover before taking on the Dallas Mavericks Friday night at American Airlines Center.
