Why a local group is against a provision in the tax reform bill

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Utah) – A provision in the House tax reform bill could open the door for nonprofit organizations to get involved in political campaigns.

Chase Thomas with Alliance For a Better Utah stops by Inside Utah Politics to explain why his organization is against this provision and why they are defending the Johnson Amendment.

"We signed a letter with hundreds of other nonprofits and there was a separate letter with about 4,000 nonprofits, we all oppose it, because this is a bright line for our charity organizations. It basically says we are for charity, we're for education, we're for religion, all these different things that we know nonprofits are for and we don't get involved with politics," Thomas said.

He also talks about what steps his organization will be taking next and what they hope to achieve moving forward.
