ROOSEVELT, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A photo of a Utah woman looking for her birth parents has gone viral on Facebook and has helped put her in touch with her birth mother.

Jenessa Simons, 21, took a photo with her birth information. She was born at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo on November 17, 1991. Her parents were each 16.

As of Tuesday night, the picture had been shared over 86,000 times on Facebook.

One woman recognized the information and put Simons in touch with her birth mother.

“She did send me a message on Facebook and said, ‘I think I’m your birth mother. I can’t believe it’s you. I’ve waited all this time’,” Simons said.

Simons was cautious. She said she had received many emails from people who were falsely claiming to be her birth mother or father.

But the woman knew information others didn’t like the fact that Simons was born by caesarean section.

“Then she sent pictures of me as a baby that my mother had given her,” Simons said.

Simons has had a whirlwind of emotions. She said she is happy and excited that a random post garnered so much attention.

She considers herself lucky, knowing some people spend years trying to find their relatives. She hopes they turn to the power of social media.

“I found my birth mother just because 70,000 people shared that picture and took one second of their day to hit share and I found my family,” she said.

Simons said at the very least she had hoped to get in touch with her birth parents to thank them for putting her up for adoption. She was raised by a loving family in Alpine.

Right now Simons is focused on learning more about her birth mother, possibly meeting her soon. She is still searching for her birth father.
