SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A Utah dad wants parents to know you can never be too careful when it comes to hot cars and your kids. He knows first hand.

The dangers are played out in a new video he and a Utah production company created hoping to save lives.

The Youtube video begins with a mom pulling into a store parking lot and distracted on her cell phone forgets her son's in the back seat.

While inside shopping her son literally begins to bake, sweating first then crying.

A few strangers notice him one even tries to open the locked door, but walks away.

Finally by the time two guys break a window the child is unconscious.

“I didn't know how deadly it could be,” said Isaac Barker, the director.

Barker learned first-hand the dangers of a child getting forgotten or in his case trapped in a hot car when one day at home his daughter wandered out of sight.

“She had gone into my garage and gotten into my car and because of the child safety locks she wasn't able to get out of the car,” he said. “During a hot summer day in the garage, she was sweating, she was crying.”

Fortunately she was okay, but the experience made him and his filmmaking colleagues want to do something more.

“As filmmakers you look for those things that can help inspire change and do some good and that's way we wanted to do it to maybe save a life and make sure it doesn't happen again,” said Scott Stowers, a producer for Red Castle Productions.

The crew created the seven and a half minute video called “One Decision” hoping to show how just one quick decision can save a life.

“If you leave a kid in a car within 15 minutes your child could suffer kidney failure, brain damage or die,” said Stowers. “They just forget their kids in the car and then by the time they remember it's too late.”
