TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - The Springville High girls basketball team hadn't lost a game all season long, and the Red Devils weren't about to ruin a perfect season in the 4A championship game.

Malia Nawahine scored 18 points and pulled down 9 rebounds as the Red Devils beat Region 8 rival Timpview, 54-40 to cap a perfect 24-0 season.

"That's definitely a special part of it," said senior point guard Savannah Park. "Our goal really wasn't to go undefeated, just go undefeated in state."

Park had 12 points and 4 steals for Springville, while center Brooke Wheeler had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

"It's just awesome to think back and what we've accomplished," said Springville head coach Nancy Warner. "We've never addressed the issue of going undefeated, so to think that we have come out with wins in all games is amazing."

Lauryn Dela Cruz and Lindie Haddock each had 14 points to lead Timpview.

In the 5A championship game, Riverton defeated Layton, 41-37 as the Silverwolves claim their first ever girls basketball state title.

Gerika Ballard, who was playing sick, led Riverton with 13 points including the clinching basket with 16.7 seconds left in the game.

"I was throwing up all last night," said Ballard. "I just wanted to play good for my team. There is nobody else I'd rather play sick for than this team. Ever since we were freshmen, we've dreamed of winning a state championship. This is really huge for our school."

"I'm elated for these kids," said head coach Ron Ence. "We finally got over that mountain. I love it, and I hope every one of these kids is going to love it as well."

Maddi Smith scored 13 points and Anderson added 11 for the Lancers.

In the 3A boys championship, Morgan claimed its first state championship since 1974 with a convincing 58-44 win over Bear River.

Jake Miles scored 16 points and Garren Miles added 12 points off the bench as Morgan built a 24-point lead at one point. The Trojans led 47-25 going into the 4th quarter and cruised to the win.

Kyle Zundel led the Bears with 10 points.
