DRAPER, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - The sister of a woman who was shot along with a Draper police officer over the weekend is now talking openly about how she is dealing with the trauma of the shooting. The family of Sgt. Derek Johnson has already spoken out about how they're dealing with his death, Tuesday the woman's sister is talking about the pain this is causing her, especially at the hands of the man their family thought of as her sister's husband.
"He was bad news from the get go and I knew it, and the two of them combined..." said Victoria King, sister.
Victoria King tells Reporter Brian Carlson she can't believe what's happened to her sister. Traci Vaillancourt was shot Sunday morning along with now deceased Draper police Sgt. Derek Johnson. Police believe Timothy Walker, or Troy, shot them both before he turned the gun on himself. King said she saw both Traci and Troy the day before the shooting.
"He got out of the car and he was waiving the gun that had a laser on it and a machete on the side," King said.
King never thought Troy would kill anyone, and she said she's heartbroken to find out he took Johnson's life.
"My immediate response was condolences to Derek Johnson and his wife and son, to know that he's going to bed without a dad every night, I'm sorry, my heart bleeds for them," King said.
She said her sister got mixed up in a life full of drugs. It all started when she sought painkillers after her first child.
"It went downhill from there, she was a model, on a TV series, she was beautiful, you wouldn't recognize her today," she said.
As much as it pains her to see how much her sister has changed, she can't stop thinking about what the shooting now means for the Johnson family.
"I watch it on TV, his brother visits the memorial two times a day, it kills me," she said.
King said the other aspect that makes this difficult for her is she's not getting much information about her sister's condition. She's knows Vaillancourt was shot in the back, is in critical condition at Intermountain Medical Center, but beyond that, she's not being told how her sister is doing.
