SPANISH FORK, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – What started out as a fun day on Utah Lake quickly turned into a life threatening experience Friday for two boats and their passengers.
Friday a wakeboarding boat and its passengers almost didn’t make it out of Utah Lake.
“It started raining and everything, it was just so fast like the wind and the waves,” said Aaron Garcia, Payson resident.
Around 6:00 p.m. a strong storm picked up on the water, therope to tubes on Garcia’s boat got tangled in the propeller, the boat couldn’t move, and it started taking on water.
“I saw these guys on the tubes and I knew they were in trouble,”said Chevy Hastings, Spanish Fork resident.
Another party and their boat was also on the water. They stopped and tried to help but they got stuck too.
“We all jumped in the water, tried to push our boat out and we couldn’t get our boat out. It was just raining like crazy; it felt like bullets hitting your head the rain was so bad,” said RileyMeasom, Springville resident.
It wasn’t until the Utah County Search and Rescue showed up that they finally towed the boats out of the lake. Although no one in either boat got hurt, which included several children, men from both boats said it was a frightening experience.
“I was pretty nervous, not for me, I don’t care about me , I just care about my kids,” said Garcia.
“It was just intense, it felt like 10 days of my life. It was just the most intense thing I’ve ever seen man. Just glad everybody is alright,” said Measom.
