FARMINGTON, Utah (ABC 4 News) – It’s not very often you’re celebrating a birthday like this; Lagoon turns 125 this week. 125 years of fun for families and years of contributions to Utah.

Rewind 125 years, Lagoon arrived in Farmington on July 12, 1886 with bowling, elegant dancing, music and good restaurants. Back to 2011, the park has exploded. It’s not just the park’s size, but jobs. The park employs 2,400 seasonal employees and 200 more year round.

Dick Andrews, Vice President of Marketing at Lagoon, talked to ABC4 about the park’s impact on the state. Andrews said, “We have had literally tens of thousands of employees come through Lagoon.”

Mr. Andrews has been one of those thousands for quite a while. He started working at the park in 1956, he was only 14!

Andrews said, “Virtually all of our managers and even senior managers have started here when they were 15, 16 years old and they are still here decades later.”

Good for the state, but that’s not the only thing bringing the crowds to the park every day. It’s the park’s attractions.

Nathanial Allred is from Salt Lake City; he’s 17 and loves Lagoon. His favorite; “The rides, they are just so much fun to go up and down and twirl.”

9-year-old Alex agreed, “I love the roller coasters and some stuff that I like.”

125 years in Utah has proven one thing: there’s something for everyone right off I-15 in Farmington.
