Some hikers and people staying in cabins nearby found the man on the ground. A ten year old yelled for help and started the rescue.
What started as a quiet afternoon on Pioneer Day turned into an emergency.
“And then I heard somebody calling for help up on the mountain,” said Parker Hollingsed, 10.
A 66-year-old man collapsed going into cardiac arrest.
“Somebody was injured really badly,” said Hollingsed.
Hollingsed told his parents. His mother called 911 and his father grabbed the first aid kit from the cabin and ran up the trail.
Tim Hollingsed is a general surgeon and used his training to try to save the man’s life doing CPR with another hiker.
The father and son team did what they could, but now their thoughts are with the 66-year-old man’s family.
“I feel very sad for the family involved and I understand a family member is getting married and it’s going to be very hard for them,” said Hillingsed.
Police say Baldwin’s case is a medical condition, but detectives are still investigating.
