Books where mothers play a leading role are often the best picks for book club because there is so much to talk about. Here are a few favorites:

"The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver. This book was very popular among book clubs over ten years ago. If your book club missed it the first time around, check it out! It's the story of a family put in an impossible situation. At one point the mother has to make a decision no mother should ever have to make. Find out what she decided and how she justified her decision by digging into this amazing book!

"The Glass Castle" is a memoir by celebrated author Jeannette Walls. The mother in this memoir may inspire every Mom to do a little better.

"The Prizewinner of Defiance, Ohio" is also a memoir by Terry Ryan. What is a mom to do when she has ten children and her husband takes every paycheck to the bar? She enters every contest she can and becomes the Prizewinner of Defiance, Ohio to keep her family fed and functioning. This amazing book was also made into a movie.

"One Plus One" is the much awaited book by Jojo Moyes, author of the novel "Me Before You". "One Plus One" is the story of a single mother whose daughter is gifted in math. Her teacher wants her to go to a private school, but even with a 90 percent scholarship, the family cannot afford it. But this mother refuses to give up. This book will be released in July but can be reserved today at the library or can be pre-ordered. The author is British, so watch out for those bloody f-bombs.
