Insurance adjusters, engineers visit Murray canal breach

- MURRAY, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Insurance adjusters and engineers visited the Murray Bluffs II subdivision Monday to assess damages and determine how best to fix the canal.

The canal breached on Saturday sending water and mud into a several homes.

The North Jordan Irrigation Company said engineers were at the site Monday to determine the soil’s stability and make a recommendation as to how the canal should be repaired.

Crews moved sand and dirt in the existing area in an attempt to fill the gap. A company spokesman said it is a temporary solution to make the slope angle less steep and make the area safer.

Residents in the neighborhood were concerned the shifting soil would create more damage.

John Brown, a homeowner, said the community needs to come together to work with the North Jordan Irrigation Company.

“We need to be a part of the solution,” he said.

Insurance adjusters met with Brown and the other families affected by the breach. The families said they must take inventories of damaged items and assess clean up costs, then turn in an insurance claim to be reimbursed.

The irrigation company said it will take some time before they figure out a long term solution to secure the canal.
