Grab your stuff, Salt Lake police clearing out evidence room

- SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - Salt Lake police are clearing out the clutter. They've got a lot stuff taking up space in their evidence room, and they want to get rid of it.

Deep within the walls of the Salt Lake Police Department, there's a lot of junk.

"Everything is sealed, everything's got to be taped and sealed," said Bryan Scott, Salt Lake Police Evidence Technician.

Skateboards, computers, CD's, you name it, their evidence room has everything.

"It's a bag of keys, it's all keys," said Scott.

Evidence Tech Bryan Scott said it's that time of the month cops need to clear it out.

"The 90 days is up and we've tried to contact people and they just haven't come to pick it up so we're getting rid of it," Scott said. "We've just got boxes and boxes."

All of it comes from suspects or victims of crime, police need the owners to claim it, or they're going to toss it.

"We have to get permission and dispose of it from the DA and the attorney on the case," said Scott.

"This could be rocks, knives, brass knuckles."

So if the bars codes in the video look familiar to you come get it, before your door of opportunity closes.

Police are clearing out their coffers on Monday. So, if you want to claim something before it gets thrown away contact the Salt Lake Police Evidence Unit at (801) 799-3041.
