How to thrift clothes for family photos

Tis the season for family photos, Christmas cards, you name it... we're taking a lot of pictures!  Here are 3 things to look for while thrift shopping to score clothing that photographs well:

1)  Bold colors

  • Jewel tones are always a safe bet
  • Think about what complements your skin tone
    • Warm skin tones (greenish/yellowish undertone) - oranges, reds, yellows, deeper greens and blues
    • Cool skin tones (blueish or pinkish undertone) - soft blues, lavenders, and rosy colors... can get away with pastels

2)  Interesting Textures

  • A good way to add dimension to a photo if you choose a neutral color
  • Especially nice if the focus is meant to showcase something other than you
  • My favorites:  Lace, corduroy, crushed velvet, even jean material

3)  Movement

  • Comfort is key!
  • Best photos are often candid moments
  • Movement, wind blowing, etc. makes the picture come to life
