The Dirty Dash is celebrating its 5th year of muddy mayhem. The race was started here in Utah by Matt Ward and a couple of his friends. The Dirty Dash is a mud run that combines boot camp obstacles with your inner 5-year-olds wish to get really, really dirty.

Every year new obstacles are added to the course. Some of the favorites are the slop n' slide (the worlds longest slip and slide), the mud mines, a giant inflatable pig bounce house, rope swings, cargo nets, and LOTS of mud pits. People are having so much fun they don't even realize they're getting a workout. But they definitely are. When you make fitness fun, you bring out people who may not typically sing up for a 5K or 10K race, but they find out they love it, and they can do it.

The Dirty Dash is not competitive. People wear costumes. They have fun with their friends, family, or co-workers. It's become a tradition. We even had our first Dirty Dash wedding last year. It's not about getting a great finish time, it's about having a great time.

The Dirty Dash Utah Spring race is June 7th at Soldier Hollow, there's also a fall race on September 13th. Most times have sold out for the spring event, but some are available. There are also locations across the western United States, and for the first time, we have several locations on the east coast this year. A portion of the proceeds of the race goes to a local charity, and participants can donate their muddy shoes after the race. We clean them up and donate them. So far more than 35,000 shoes have been donated.
