Most ditch their skinny jeans in the summer and embrace their collection of shorts and swimsuits. But, some may not be so comfortable showing off their legs. Don't let varicose veins force you to wear pants and sweats in those hot temps or keep you from having some summer fun in the pool.

Dr. Hadjbian, founder of Vein Institute of Utah, says varicose veins can do more than keep you from having fun this summer. If you ignore your varicose veins, they will won't go away and they will get worse over time.

Ignoring the symptoms of aching legs, swollen legs, restless legs, cramping, varicose veins and spider veins, your vein disease can progress into one of three very serious conditions:
  • Statis dermatitis, which causes inflammation, heaviness, achiness, and tiredness in your legs and ankles
  • A venous ulcer, where the inflammation from the white blood cells causes your skin to die, can cause a bleeding sore that can take up to months or years to heal
  • Superficial phlebitis, which is a surface clot, can be quite painful and can act like a deep vein clot
If you are having any of these symptoms or know of anyone who is, Dr. Hadjbian suggests seeing a vascular specialist and receiving treatment to prevent further progression of this vein disease. Dr.Hadjbian's practice can customize a specific treatment plan your and most vein procedures are covered by your insurance.

Dr. Hadjbian will be doing free vein screenings on Thursday, July 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
