SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) - Quinceanera is also called fiesta de quince anos, and is the celebration of a girl's fifteenth birthday in parts of Latin America and elsewhere in communities of people from Latin America.  This birthday is celebrated differently from any other because it marks the transition from childhood to womanhood.

The planning for the quinceanera starts 12 to 18 months in advance.  The party includes going to the beauty salon, music, dresses, makeup, decorations, a limo ride and more.

The Quinceaneras Utah Magazine is more than just a print media, it is a guide to help all girls who are planning quinceaneras parties.  They feature vendors who help with the quinceaneras and other parties as well.

The magazine also has an event called "Miss Covergirl", where they look for the next girl that will be on the cover of the magazine.  The girl who is chosen will get classes in how to speak in public, do makeup, modeling and dancing.  To participate, girls must be between 14 and 16 years old, have Latino heritage and be enrolled in school.

On Sunday, April 20th, the magazine is hosting a "Miss Covergirl" event at Embassy Suites, 3524 South Market Street in West Valley City.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the event begins at 7:00 pm.
