Lawless review

“Lawless” is based on the true story of the Bondurant Brothers, a ruthless gang of depression-era bootleggers.
“Lawless” is based on the true story of the Bondurant Brothers, a ruthless gang of depression-era bootleggers.

The film centers on Jack Bondurant, played by Shia LaBeouf, who comes to power as a fierce and violent criminal. Jack begins this journey as a shy and retiring man, but the circumstances of prohibition turn Jack (and is brothers) into a brutal killers.

The film also explores Jack’s relationships with his two brothers, Forrest (Tom Hardy) and Howard (Jason Clarke). Tom Hardy, who was last seen in “The Dark Knight Rises” puts in a gritty and precise performance. Jason Clarke likewise is a watchable actor and conveys a deep and brooding character. Also in the cast are Guy Pierce as a crooked cop, Jessica Chastain as a gun moll and Mia Wasikowska as the woman who catches Jack’s eye.

On big warning the film is extremely violent and brutal.

But despite the movie’s violence and bloodshed, it is Shia LaBeouf’s methodical performance as Jack that makes this film worth while. Hopefully LaBeouf’a name will make it to the Best Actor Nominations this year, he deserves it.
“Lawless” gets a B+ and is rated R
