Woman alive after being accidently shot in the upper body

RICHFIELD, Utah (ABC 4 News) -- A Richfield woman is lucky to be alive after a bullet is accidently shot through her upper body.

Just after 2 p.m. Sunday, Police received a call to responded to the Sevier Valley Medical Center on a shooting.

When police arrived they found Cheyenne Hibberd suffering from a gun shot wound.

Hibberd told police she was with Jesse Warenski driving around.

The vehicle got a flat tire and they stopped at a family member’s house to fix it.

Warenski reached into the truck to get out the tire iron to change the tire. When he did a gun went off.

Hibberd told police all she could think about, at the time, was taking a walk. She started to walk and felt a pain on the left side of her stomach. She pulled her shirt up and saw she was bleeding. She kept walking and started to feel pain on her breast. Hibberd said she reached down her shirt and saw blood on her hand. She then pulled down her shirt and saw a cut above her right breast. She continued to walk and fell to the ground.

They call 911 and an ambulance responded, transporting her to the medical center.

Witness statements from the EMT's who were on scene and the doctor at the hospital said that it appears that the bullet entered on the left side and exited above her right breast. The doctor indicated that it appeared to be a large caliber round, and could not see a bullet or shrapnel in her xrays, and said that it appeared that the bullet had exited her body. Deputies at the scene could see where a bullet had gone through the passengers side on the rear of the cab. The gun was a 30-06 rifle.

She was then flown to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo.

At this time detectives do not believe there was any foul play or criminal intent in the incident.
