LINDON, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Bad weather is hampering Utah County Sheriff's Office search for missing fisherman on Utah Lake.

37-year-old Tam Huynh went fishing around 8 a.m. Saturday. His boat was found running, with the throttle at half thrust, and unmanned around 5 p.m. Search and rescue teams have been out on the water looking for him ever since, but the windy conditions Monday made their search extremely difficult.

Sgt. Eldon Packer with the Utah County Sheriff's Office explained, "The wave action on this lake, it's very shallow so the wave come up quite high in an instant almost and so it's one thing we get concerned about our searchers another thing it also hampers our sonar efforts. You really can't run sonar in the wave action; it becomes very difficult."

The waves also push around objects on the bottom of the lake which is why search crews are repeatedly going over locations they have already searched.

"We're still confident that we're in the right area, we just haven't located the individual yet," said Sgt. Packer. "We also don't know exactly where he came out. We're guessing basically."

Packet told ABC 4 News if the dive teams and the air crews didn't find anything by the end of the day Monday, they're moving on to their last resort plan.

"If things don't progress like we like them we'll actually start a drag operation and check the area that way," said Sgt. Packer.

They've put off the drag operation as long as they could because it turns up the already murky lake and because it's hard on the family. After Monday, it's likely recovery efforts will be scaled back.
