SALT LAKE CITY, (ABC 4 Utah) – Protests by supporters of Trayvon Martin swept the nation on Saturday, including Salt Lake, to call for civil right charges against George Zimmerman.

A group of people gathered in front of the Wallace F. Bennett on 125 South State Street for a peaceful protest. They chanted and held signs to support their cause.

Supporters of Trayvon want civil rights charges filed against Zimmerman in the aftermath of his acquittal regarding Trayvon’s death in February 2012.

Those on the opposite side of the issue believe there was not enough evidence to convict Zimmerman. They said the public should respect the jury’s decision and our justice system.

The protest in Salt Lake was one in approximately 100 rallies across the nation.
