SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) - A Utah Highway Patrol trooper is alive and well even though he put himself in the line of fire.

Troopers say a drunk man, Axel Garcia, 22, was driving the wrong way on I-15 in Salt Lake Sunday morning. In fear of the public's safety, Utah Highway Patrol put all hands on deck spiking the man's car twice, but he still led them on a chase.

After failing to stop several times, Mark Zesiger, a captain with UHP had no choice, but to step in. Zesiger put his car in the direct line of fire.

Garcia hit him head on. He was later arrested when the impact slowed him down. He now faces serious charges including a DUI.
