SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) – If you’ve noticed the weather changing, so has Utah’s Department of Transportation. Right now UDOT is also gearing up for this season’s upcoming snow. They're working to get roads and crews winter ready.

It’s easy to see how Utah’s weather is changing, and it won't be long before Autumn’s grey clouds turn to a white winter blast, and right now UDOT is getting ready.

"This is a really busy exciting time of year for our maintenance crews," said Elizabeth Weight, UDOT Spokesperson.

UDOT Spokesperson Elizabeth Weight tells Reporter Brian Carlson crews are busy preparing the state's 500 plows for this winter's upcoming snow, and scrambling to finish summer construction jobs including a repaving project on I-80 up Parley's Canyon. Cold weather has already put this job on hold at least once.

"Our project teams know that this is always a possibility when we get to this stage in the construction season and so they're pretty adept at changing pace on the go," said Weight.

Although Mother Nature isn't making UDOT's winter preparations easy, they claim when the snow hits the road, the surface itself and the machines that clean it up - will be good to go.

"We're right on schedule with what we have planned," she said.
