Teenage girl dies after being buried in sand

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A 15-year-old girl from Santa Clara was found with no vital signs when first responders arrived to Snow Canyon State Park after she had been buried in sand.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A 15-year-old girl from Santa Clara was found with no vital signs when first responders arrived to Snow Canyon State Park after she had been buried in sand.

The incident was called in just after 3 p.m. Friday when the victim's family was unable to locate the teen, said Washington County officials.

The family found the girl buried four feet deep in sand with only her hair showing. When emergency crews arrived, she was flown by air to Dixie Regional Hospital while crews administered CPR. She was later transported by LifeFlight to Primary Children's Medical Center in critical condition.

UPDATE: ABC 4 News has learned the girl, 15 year old Whitney Webb, has died at Primary Children's Hospital.

Washington County Sheriff Deputies said the girl and her siblings dug a hole in the sand to stay cool. It is unclear if her siblings were near the hole at the time of the collapse.

The incident it currently being investigated as an accident.
