The 60 police personnel of Taylorsville will be transferred to UPD which will go into effect July 1, 2012.
The estimated savings is over $500,000 for this year, according to city officials.
The council also approved a 15 percent tax increase which will be used in funding capital projects and maintenance of streets throughout the city.
Another part of the budget approval was a proposal to join the Salt Lake Valley Fire District. This is expected to add 9 fire and EMS personnel, a new fire station and re-building station 117. This will take effect on January 1, 2013.
