WASHINGTON (ABC 4 Utah) – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has commended the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) as one of 16 rail and mass transit agencies from across the nation to earn TSA’s highest rating of “Gold Standard.” This distinction is according to the Baseline Assessment for Security Enhancement (BASE) which recognizes dedication to building a strong security program.

"The UTA is to be commended for their commitment and hard work that this level of achievement requires," said TSA Administrator John S. Pistole. "TSA recognizes the continued dedication individual transit agencies demonstrate every day to ensure the security of travelers nationwide."

TSA reviewed the UTA in 2012 and it attained high scores across all categories. TSA deemed the UTA's caliber of performance as attaining its "Gold Standard" and recognized it for having strong security programs.

TSA continues to work with transit agencies across the country to develop and implement robust, system-wide security practices.

"The security and safety of our passengers is our number one priority,"said UTA General Manager Michael Allegra. "We have worked closely with TSA and other agencies make sure our safety personnel have the best training to prevent accidents and crime. It is good to see those efforts are being recognized in this way."
