According to South Salt Lake Police spokesman Gary Keller, around 3:30 p.m. an officer pulled over someone driving a vintage red Chevy for driving recklessly on State Street near 3081 South.
Keller said when the police car came to a stop, the driver rammed the chevy in the squad car, then sped away.
Officers went after the driver, but called off the chase just before it crossed 3300 South and 700 East. Police were becoming concerned about the safety of the other drivers on the road. Ironically seconds later, the suspect crashed into two cars turning at that same intersection. The suspect tried to run away, but police found him in a neighborhood behind a nearby strip mall.
When police searched the car they found several guns, including a shotgun. They found out the car was stolen, and the driver had several felony warrants out for his arrest. The driver has been identified and sent to a hospital for a leg injury. He is expected to be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
