SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Famous Utah author and motivational speaker Dr. Stephen R. Covey is under intensive care at a Provo hospital Friday night.

Debra Lund, publicist for Covey, tells ABC 4 he was injured in a bicycle crash in Provo.  Lund said Thursday night Covey was bicycling with a friend just above Rock Canyon near his home. Covey crashed, hit his head.  He's now suffering from swelling and bleeding on the brain.

"He's responding well to our staff, and to family. So that's a good sign," said Janet Frank, Spokesperson for Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.

79-year-old Covey is most famous for the best-selling book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. According to Covey's website, the book was named the #1 most influential book of the Twentieth Century.

Lund said Covey was in stable condition, and as of 4:00 p.m. Friday, was beginning to show signs of improvement.

According to Lund, Covey had been cutting back on his speaking engagement schedule over the past 6 months and has been enjoying time with family and doing recreational activities. Lund said Covey had traveled around world to may countries speaking on his Highly Effective plan for business and personal success.
