Mountain snow melted so fast it created a rushing river on Amy and Aaron Asay’s property, leaving behind a ripped up yard and driveway. “We've had run off problems before but we've never had a flood like this,” said Aaron Asay.
Frozen soil couldn't absorb the fast snowmelt. The couple's septic system also flooded into the home destroying their ballet studio in the basement.
“It stinks,” said Aaron. “You don't expect to see that much water running through your home.”
The couple never predicted this would happen when they bought the home six years ago. They say they knew there was a wash in the back, but didn't know it ran right through their yard. “We never expected it to flow through our driveway I mean we live in the desert we never expected that much water,” said Aaron.
Now they're hoping the city of
“This was not something that we did,” said Aaron. “We bought the home expecting the storm drainage to work and be efficient. Everything outside of our property belongs to the city especially this wash. Basically now we know it flows right through our property so I would hope the city would take some responsibility.”
