SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Salt Lake City leaders are marking Arbor Day by dedicating a 150-tree "Grove of Gratitude" in honor of public safety workers.

The ceremony Friday morning comes after a weeklong tree-planting effort at Riverside Park that involved youth volunteers and city workers.

Salt Lake City Urban Forester Bill Rutherford created the grove project, which he says will develop into a peaceful place for residents to visit and reflect on things they're grateful for.

The project coincides with Arbor Day, which began in Nebraska in 1872 as a way to promote tree planting and became a national event in 1907.
