RUSH VALLEY (ABC 4 News) - An intense fire completely gutted a home in Tooele County on Tuesday, leaving two people without a roof over their heads.

The flames started before 9 a.m. in the town of Rush Valley, officials said. The homeowner called for help when he awoke to the sounds of fire crackling. Both people living in the home made it out safely, and fire crews quickly arrived to fight the blaze.

However, battling the flames was a challenge because there are no fire hydrants in Rush Valley. Consequently, crews had to have water brought in by trucks from the nearby town of Stockton, five miles away.

Officials said firefighters had good control of the fire initially, but the flames spread when crews were forced to stop for a few moments and switch to another water source. Winds of up to 30 miles per hour also helped spread the flames to the upper level of the home, which ultimately collapsed.

The two-story home was completely destroyed, but firefighters prevented the blaze from damaging an adjacent home on the property.

The American Red Cross is assisting the home's residents in finding temporary living arrangements. No injuries were reported.

Seven different fire departments, including nearly 40 firefighters, worked together to extinguish the fire. The cause was not immediately known.
