The Tooele County Sheriff’s Office tells us 10 to 20 mobile homes in the community of Willow Springs have been destroyed by the fire. They also ordered residents of the town of Terra to leave their homes around 3:15 p.m. Friday. A campground on Highway 199 has also been evacuated.
The forest service says the last official count was 14,000 acres, but they suspect significant growth today. They say the fire is only 20 percent contained.
The fire is still burning strong Friday with flames visible from miles away on the west side of the mountain in Skull Valley.
Additional planes joined the fight today coming from the Rockport 5 fire to assist in the assault from above.
Evacuees are on edge, but thankful for the efforts underway to battle the blaze.
“They are taking big chances. The air above the fire is totally turbulent and with the wind mixed in and everything they have to be great pilots to do that," said Mike Lafevre, evacuee.
The fire also forced the closure of highway 199 overnight, it remains closed for about 10 miles from mile marker 7 to 17.
An evacuation center has been set up at the LDS church in Dugway for those displaced by the fire.
