OGDEN, Utah (AP) - An Ogden police officer is recovering from minor injuries after his squad car was struck by a possibly drunken driver.

Authorities say police had blocked off an area near Patterson and Quincy streets about 4:30 a.m. Sunday when a Mitsubishi Eclipse drove toward them.

Police say they signaled for the driver to stop, but the vehicle sped up instead and forced two officers to move out of the way to avoid being hit. The driver struck a parked car, then hit a patrol car head-on.

Police say all three vehicles had major damage.

One officer was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Officials say the 24-year-old Mitsubishi driver, Richard Fernandez, was not seriously injured and has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
