When it came time for his Eagle Scout project, Jared Goodell turned to the past.

"I was still pretty young, but my brothers and sisters would give these fliers out to their schools and they would invite the kids over and do this every year," said Goodell.

He’s teaming up with Operation Christmas Child, a project that makes the Holiday season a little brighter for children in more than 100 countries.

"Children that are in war torn areas, that have been affected by disease, poverty, natural disasters," said Allison Long, State Director of Operation Christmas Child.

To help lift their spirits Goodell set a goal to pack 100 boxes with small toys, school supplies, hygiene items and candy to be shipped off.

"It brings them joy, it brings them hope, lets them know that someone cares about them," said Long.

All of the items are donated by the 45 to 50 volunteers invited to the party.

"The kids that are putting the boxes together, it gives them the awesome opportunity to give to someone who doesn't have anything. It teaches them to be caring and compassionate," said Long.

The gift of giving that is helping a young man take life to the next level.

"To watch them grow and to mature, go from a young boy who didn't even dare go to scouts, to one that now is leading," said Goodell’s father and Scout Master, Curtis Goodell.

Last year Operation Christmas Child sent 16,600 shoe boxes overseas from Utah, the goal this year is 17,000.
