"It just really wrecks you inside," said Tanner Nelson, friend of couple killed in I-215 crash.
Saturday night Tanner Nelson is struggling with the death of his friends Garrett Barker and Kel Halterman. They died Saturday morning in an icy wreck.
"They both did so much for everyone, that they can be gone so fast, its crazy," said Nelson.
The Utah Highway Patrol said the couple was driving on the I-215 ramp towards North Salt Lake when they hit an icy patch and lost control.
"They were travelling above the postal speed limit," said Lt. Ed Michaud, Utah Highway Patrol.
The couple drove over the guard rail and crashed 30 feet below. The impact killed Barker, Halterman and their four dogs riding inside.
Nelson told ABC 4 his friends worked at a veterinary clinic and had foster dogs. He said the couple was engaged to be married, and Halterman was 8 months pregnant expecting a baby girl.
"You never expect anything to happen when kids are 20 or 21 years old," said Nelson.
Right now Nelson doesn't quite know how to say goodbye.
"People miss you already, rest easy," he said.
If you’d like to help the family cover funeral costs, a donation account has been set up in their name at America First Credit Union. It’s called the “Gurt & Kel Barker Memorial Account”. To donate, the account number is #9057514.
